The Supreme Court of Israel will conduct a Hearing to Decide the Eviction of family, who have their roots in Palestine from their current home that is in Silwan neighbourhood of East Jerusalem.

The decision of the Top Court is also going affect the supposed Eviction of other families living in the area.

The Top Court in this Hearing is going to hear the Petition filed by Dweik family, who are living on that land which was owned by Jews before Israel was founded in 1948 from decades.

The Decision regarding the Dweik family Case is going to affect other Cases in which pro-settler Jewish organizations are requesting to evict residents of Silwan.

The Top Court had also asked Attorney General Avichai Mendelblit, to suggest his Legal opinion regarding the questions arising from the Case.

The Court had ordered him to submit all the Legal ambits regarding the status of the land and the Laws of religious trusts in Ottoman-era Jurisprudence.

“Considered the matters seriously and Held discussions with professionals and on the policies relevant to the issue, in which weighty diplomatic considerations also arose,” submitted Mendelblit last week.

Adding to this, Mendelblit also stated that these issues should not be discussed because the residents can be evicted based on the denial of their claim that the statute of limitations has expired.

It should be noted here that currently the land is owned by a Historic religious trust, which for the last 20 years has been controlled by the pro-settler Ateret Cohanim Organization.
