The Delhi High Court has dismissed a plea seeking the recall of all currency notes above Rs 100 and the restriction of cash transactions above Rs 10,000.
The plea also aimed to link assets worth more than Rs 50,000 with Aadhaar to combat corruption.
The petitioner, Advocate Ashwini Kumar Upadhyay, further proposed restrictions on cash transactions for various purposes, including air tickets, rail tickets, electricity bills, LPG bills, CNG bills, municipality bills, and other bills above Rs 10,000.
He believed these measures would be practical solutions to curb corruption, black money, money laundering, benami transactions, and the accumulation of disproportionate assets.
The plea also urged the regulation of cash transactions in online shopping platforms like Amazon and Flipkart, as well as in all industrial and domestic goods, products, and services, limiting the transactions to a maximum retail price of Rs 10,000.
However, after the court refused to entertain the plea, the petitioner sought permission to withdraw the petition, which was granted.
The bench, comprising Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice Sanjeev Narula, dismissed the petition as withdrawn with liberty for the petitioner to seek other remedies available under the law.
In the petition, the advocate highlighted the persistent challenges of bribery, black money, benami transactions, disproportionate assets, tax evasion, and money laundering even after 75 years of Independence.
The plea emphasized the need for a corruption-free society and clean and transparent governance for the progress of India.
The petitioner suggested stringent measures, including confiscation of black money, disproportionate assets, and benami properties, along with the imposition of rigorous life imprisonment for individuals involved in corrupt practices.
