Delhi High Court rejects petition seeking deregistration of YSR Congress Party

The Delhi High Court dismissed a petition seeking to deregister Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy’s Yuvajana Sramika Rythu (YSR) Congress Party.

The decision was made by a single-Judge Bench led by Justice Prateek Jalan in response to a plea filed by the Anna YSR Congress Party.

The Court dismissed the plea because it was totally without merit.

The petitioner’s complaint was that, notwithstanding the Election Commission’s prohibition on using the name YSR Congress Party, the party was doing so illegally and unlawfully on its letterheads, campaign materials, and other party administrative collaterals.

The petitioner further claimed that the term YSR Congress was an intrinsic element of its Anna YSR Congress Party, and that the ruling party has been misusing the name in front of the public.

The petitioner claimed that the YSR Congress should be de-recognized as a political party under Section 16-A of the Election Symbols (Reservation and Allotment) Order, 1968, arguing that Reddy’s party was guilty of clear, willful, premeditated, deliberate, and conscious disobedience to lawful directions and instructions of the Election Commission.
