The Delhi High Court has issued a notice to the Delhi government in response to a plea filed by a Residents Welfare Association (RWA) seeking the relocation of a liquor shop within their locality. The court’s move comes as a ray of hope for the concerned residents who have long been grappling with various issues associated with the presence of the liquor shop in their neighborhood.

The RWA, representing the aggrieved residents, approached the High Court seeking the immediate relocation of the liquor shop, citing a multitude of problems.

The residents argue that the presence of the shop in such close proximity to residential areas has been a constant source of disturbance, causing public nuisance, unruly behavior, and an increase in crime rates. Moreover, they express concerns about the negative impact on the overall well-being and safety of the community, particularly on children and senior citizens.

Justice observed the merit in the RWA’s plea and considered it necessary to issue a notice to the Delhi government, seeking their response on the matter.

The court has directed the concerned government authorities, including the Excise Department and the Municipal Corporation, to submit a detailed report outlining the legality and appropriateness of the liquor shop’s current location.

The court’s notice has brought a glimmer of hope to the residents who have tirelessly campaigned for the relocation of the liquor shop. They believe that the court’s intervention will provide them with a fair opportunity to present their grievances and have their concerns addressed.

The plea by the RWA highlights the importance of community well-being and the need for responsible urban planning. It emphasizes the significance of maintaining a harmonious living environment where residents can feel safe, secure, and free from the negative externalities associated with such establishments.
