Delhi High Court adjourns hearing over unpaid court fees

Delhi High Court on Tuesday adjourned hearing on the quality issues at the quarantine facility in Sultanpuri over unpaid court fees.

The PIL filed in the high court by a student of Jawaharlal Nehru University stated that after contracting covid-19, she quarantined at Sultanpuri Centre for four days and the centre she found was simply put just inhospitable, unhygienic and in an uninhabitable state.

It was claimed by her that “ Conditions are so pathetic that patients are at risk. The toilets and bedsheets are not clean, No doctor, nurses were present. The place is not sanitized, no hygiene is maintained.

She further claimed that those patients who were already suffering at the Centre, their situation was exacerbated by the negligence on the part of government authorities who unable were unable to provide necessary facilities of that of food, medicines, sanitation, clean beds and hospital staff to monitor their health.

Chief Justice DN Patel however after hearing the petitioner’s counsel state that they were unable to pay the required fee on time due to the link not working said, “You’re paying more money to get the plea typed. I’ve seen for the last 15 days that people are not paying court fees. Why are people not paying court fees? I checked this morning everything is working. You first pay court fees then we will hear.”

Hence, the matter will be taken up in the following hearing listed on 17th may, after the requisite fee is paid by the petitioner.
