Delhi High Court issued notice to e-commerce giant Amazon India in a petition filed against the selling of Shien products at their website during its Prime Day Sale.

The petition was filed for prohibiting the entry of Chinese Apparel brand Shein into the Indian Digital market through Amazon. The plea sought for suspending the partnership between Amazon India and Shien until the ban by the Centre is not lifted.

The event of Prime Day Sale on Amazon will be initiated on July 25, which will also include the products of Shien, that could be sold and bought in India.

Among the 59 Chinese mobile apps that were banned in India, Shien, which is a Chinese online fashion app was one of them.

The ban was imposed in threat to Indian sovereignty and integrity after the India-China stand-off at Galwan Valley in Ladakh took place.

Therefore, the Central Government took a major step in June 2020 by banning Chinese apps that led to the elimination of Chinese influence over India.

The division bench comprising of Chief Justice DN Patel and Justice Jyoti Singh issued notice to Amazon India and the Union Government and sought their response regarding the plea.

The Court refused to pass any interim stay order at the moment for Shien Products to be sold during the Amazon Sale event, on the ground that Shein was temporarily banned by the Centre last year.

The matter will be further addressed on August 20.
