The Delhi High Court asked the Centre and Delhi Government and the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to consider a PIL seeking to regulate the use of the ‘Yulu Bikes’ in the Delhi City.

Yulu Bikes are rental bikes launched in 2018, that provide last-mile connectivity to metro riders and are available outside several stations and are given on rent online.

The Petitioner sought to regulate the lending of these E-bikes, stating that the same is available to 13 years old. The Petitioner argued that these bikes should be brought under the ambit of the Motor Vehicles Act along with proper guidelines.

Furthermore, it was highlighted that the sluggish speed of these E-bikes can be dangerous amid the fast-moving traffic on busy roads. The Division Bench of Chief Justice D.N Patel and Justice Jyoti Singh directed the authorities to treat Plea as a representation and decide according to Law.

The Delhi Traffic Police too showed concern over Minors, school Children, riding the Yulu bikes without Helmet.
