Delhi High Court on Thursday has closed its suo moto proceeding that was undertaken to take cognisance of the issue regarding Delhi government’s order to provide 5-star covid facility for Judges and their families at Ashoka Hotel.

A Division Bench of Justices Vipin Sanghi and Rekha Palli was informed by Adv. Santosh Kumar that the Delhi government has withdrawn its order to set up 100 Covid-19 beds in the Ashoka Hotel for judges and judicial officers.

The Delhi Government’s order dated 28th April 2021, passed by SDM Geeta Grover, has stated that the Government has withdrawn its order with immediate effect.

The Delhi High Court on Tuesday confronted the state government for allotting 100 rooms in 5-star hotels as COVID care centres for judges and took suo moto action and issued a notice as no such request and communication was made by the High Court.

“All that we wanted was, in case they need admission, there may be some facility available . And that has been converted to such an order.” the Court said.

“Can we as an institution say that create a special facility for us? Will this not be blatantly discriminatory that people can’t get treatment and there is a facility in a five star hotel for us” the Bench further added.
