Death penalty to 11 members of a highway killer gang in Andhra Pradesh

The Ongole District Court in Andhra Pradesh has sentenced gangster and highway serial killer Munna and 10 other gang members to death, guilty of dacoity and murder.

The gang members were involved in waylaying of trucks on highways posing as police officers and then used to escape with the trucks and goods in them after murdering the occupants.

The police had carried on an intense probe that involved investigation in various states namely Tamil Nadu, Bihar and West Bengal, eventually leading to the discovery of involvement of the gang headed by Munna in the crime.

The Court found 18 persons guilty for being involved in four such cases in 2018. Eleven have been sentenced to death and the rest have been awarded life term or shorter duration of imprisonment.

The police further informed the Court that Munna had tried to flee the country but was arrested in farmhouse of a former MLA in Karnataka.
