The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has announced its new membership in the steering group of the International Competition Network (ICN).

This significant development was unveiled on Wednesday, marking the CCI’s entry into a prestigious global consortium dedicated to competition issues. The ICN, a global network, comprises 140 competition agencies from 130 countries.

The CCI’s membership in the ICN’s steering group was confirmed during the ICN Annual Conference 2023 held in Barcelona, Spain. This achievement comes as a result of consistent efforts by the CCI to strengthen its involvement in international competition matters.

The ICN, guided by its apex body, the Steering Group consisting of 18 members, serves as a valuable platform for competition authorities worldwide to establish regular contacts and address practical competition concerns. This collaborative network facilitates the exchange of insights and experiences among its member agencies.

An official source shared that this marks the CCI’s first-time participation in the ICN’s steering group, with a membership duration of two years. The inclusion of the CCI in this group is expected to enhance India’s participation in global competition matters and strengthen international cooperation in the field.

The ICN’s mission is to provide competition authorities with an informal yet specialized forum to foster continuous dialogue, cooperation, and the effective resolution of competition-related issues.

This development aligns with the CCI’s commitment to advancing competition principles and contributing to the global discourse on competition policy.
