The verdict in the murder case of former Dera manager Ranjit Singh in which Dera Sacha Sauda founder Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh is the main accused was reserved for August 26 by a special CBI Court Panchkula on Wednesday.

On August 26, the Court will hold another hearing at which the prosecution will provide rebuttal arguments.

The Court has issued a notice to jail superintendents to present Dera Sacha Sauda head Gurmeet Ram Rahim and another accused Krishan Lal via video conference.

On July 10, 2002, four shooters shot and killed Ranjit Singh. Avtar Singh, Inder Sain, Krishan Lal, Jasbir Singh, and Sabdil Singh are among the suspects, in addition to Ram Rahim.

Ram Rahim was sentenced to 20 years in prison for raping two of his female disciples. In addition, he was sentenced to life in jail for the murder of journalist Ram Chander Chhatarpati.

Ram Rahim is now on trial for the murder of Ranjit Singh and another case involving the alleged castration of several Dera followers.

In an earlier ruling, the Court set August 24 as the deadline for issuing an order in the case, instructing the jail authorities to ensure Ram Rahim’s physical attendance in Court.

The matter was adjourned till August 26 for the final order, at the request of the Haryana Government.

“As the Vidhan Sabha session is scheduled to be held from August 20 to August 25, the law and order machinery shall remain busy during this period as the present case is highly sensitive. The date already fixed may kindly be adjourned for any convenient date after August 25,’’ Pankaj Garg, Panchkula District Attorney, told the Court.

Along with the Dera Chief, Krishan Lal, Jasbir, Avtaar, and Sabdil are accused in the case. Another accused Inder Sain had died in October 2020.
