A District Court in Meghalaya has rejected the bail petition of a doctor for the second time. The doctor had illegally done an abortion on a minor girl who was a rape victim.

The accused, Dr. Dolon R Marak of Tura Reserve Gittim, was taken under custody by the South Garo Hills Police from Williamnagar for an illegal abortion of a minor girl who was raped by her brother-in-law.

The minor girl was admitted to the Baghmara hospital because of adverse bleeding caused by the botched abortion which was done by the doctor, even without informing the hospital authorities.

The police immediately after receiving the complaint arrested the brother-in-law and the doctor.

Hospital authorities of Williamnagar Civil Hospital have distanced themselves after the arrest of its former doctor by stating that the alleged doctor will no longer be the part of East Garo Hills medical fraternity at the time of his police custody.

The doctor was transferred in June, through promotion to the Maternity and Child Hospital (MCH) in Tura, West Garo Hills.

Meanwhile, Dr. Dolon R Marak has been admitted to Baghmara Civil Hospital for medical treatment as he is suffering from alcohol withdrawal symptoms.
