The Supreme Court said the Delhi NCR’s Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has set up an executive working group to oversee compliance with the instructions issued in the face of deteriorating air quality in the region.
In the Affidavit, the Commission notified the Supreme Court that a task force of five had been established in the exercise of statutory powers.
The commission submitted it had already formed 17 flight groups to take disciplinary action against the breach and would increase that number to 40 in the next 24 hours.
The Affidavit was submitted after the Supreme Court called both the Centre and the Delhi Government regarding the air quality of the metropolitan area.
The Court gave the Centre and the CAQM a 24-hour grace period and asked to develop an emergency air pollution control mechanism at Delhi NCR.
Last month, CAQM announced a series of steps to control Delhi NCR’s air pollution, including a ban on construction and demolition activities. However, the air quality of the provincial capital has remained in the “very bad” category for some time.
CAQM was established in 2021 to better coordinate, investigate, identify and resolve air quality problems in the Delhi NCR and neighbouring areas where pollution sources can affect the air quality of the metropolitan area.
The Commission coordinates the actions of relevant governments and plans and implements plans to prevent and control NCR air pollution.
