Brazil Supreme Court confirms Judge was biased against Ex-President Lula

Deepali Kalia –

On June 23rd Brazil’s Supreme Court upheld its earlier ruling that ex-President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva was treated unfairly by the lower court judge in the graft probes.

The corruption conviction, as a result, was thrown out against the former president as with a vote of 7 to 4 the decision that former judge Sergio Moro was biased, was confirmed.

Lula’s defence team also requested the Supreme Court to evaluate other cases that were judged by Moro against Lula as they could’ve been influenced by the judge’s apparent business as well.

In April, graft convictions against the former president were also tossed by the Supreme Court which stated that the Courts lacked jurisdiction to do so.

The current ruling now could lead to other cases against the left-wing leader being tossed out as well.
