Bombay HC grants Arnab Goswami time to amend petition in abetment of suicide case

The Bombay High Court permitted time to Arnab Goswami, Republic TV Editor-in-Chief in amending his petition in the abetment of suicide case.

He was further asked to place the charge sheet filed against him and 2 others in the abetment of suicide case of the interior designer on record.

The three accused – Arnab Goswami, Feroze Shaikh and Nitish Sarda were directed to appear on 7th January before the Alibaug magistrate court in Maharashtra.

The Magistrate Court had taken cognisance of the charge sheet filed by the Alibaug police on 16th December 2020.

The trial would be conducted by the sessions court as the charges filed in the case are punishable for the offence for more than seven years.

On 4th November 2020, the 3 accused were arrested by the police and the Bombay High Court rejected Arnab Goswami’s interim bail application.

He further approached the Supreme Court and thereby the interim bail was granted on 11th November.

Arnab Goswami had filed a petition in November 2020 seeking the quashing of the FIR filed against him and later sought to amend his petition in order to challenge the charge sheet filed.

The Bombay High Court allowed the petition in December 2020.

On 6th January Advocate, Niranjan Mundargi, representing Arnab Goswami, asked for an extension of time to carry out the amendment as the translation of the charge sheet in English needs more time.

The court gave the extension of time and listed the matter for hearing on 11th January.

Advocate Vijay Aggarwal, representing the other accused in this case, Nitish Sarda had filed a petition in the High Court against the FIR and sought the court to hear his contentions.

The court listed Nitish Sarda’s plea for hearing on 11th February.
