The Bombay High Court denied hearing an intervention application filed by lyricist Javed Akhtar alleging that Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut knowingly failed to present her facts to obtain a favourable order for her passport renewal.
Advocate Vrinda Grover, representing Akhtar stated that the statement made by Ranaut that no criminal case was pending against any Court was false and misleading
The division bench comprising Justices SS Shinde and NJ Jamadar denied to intervene in this matter and said that if it intervenes then the Court will be flooded with similar applications seeking intervention.
The intervention petition by Akhtar submitted that the Court requires to hear from Ranaut’s lawyer, Advocate Rizwan Siddiquee on confirming that “no criminal cases were pending against Ranaut.”
Akhtar further submitted that Ranaut’s lawyer mentioned about only two FIRs filed against Kangana and didn’t mention criminal defamation complaint which was filed by him against Ranaut.
Whereas in the appeal filed by Ranaut against her charges on criminal defamation proceedings initiated by the Metropolitan Magistrate at Andheri, Mumbai on the complaint filed by Akhtar.
Ranaut had sought for removing all the proceedings initiated by the Magistrate arising from Akhtar’s complaint which would include all the orders and summons, issued to date. The Court has directed Kangana Ranaut to approach the appropriate bench.
