Javed Akhtar moves Bombay HC alleging Misleading Statements by Kangana Ranaut

The lyricist Javed Akhtar alleged Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut deliberately misleading statements before the Court for obtaining a favourable Order in the matter of her passport renewal.

Javed Akhtar claimed that she has failed to disclose certain facts in her petition seeking speedy procedure for her passport renewal.

Akhtar intervened in the writ petition filed by Kangana against rejection of her passport renewal on grounds of an FIR registered against her for alleged copyright infringement by the writer of the book ‘Didda: Warrior Queen of Kashmir’.

In a Court hearing, Kangana made a statement that “No criminal cases were pending against the petitioner in any Court arising out of two FIRs.”

Her lawyer, Rizwan Siddiquee told that there were only two FIRs registered against the actor but criminal proceedings in these FIRs had not started yet.

One of the FIRs is against her tweets allegedly promoting religious enmity and the second about alleged copyright infringement.

The Court agreed to resume Kangana’s passport renewal process based on her assuring statement in the Court.

Intervening the matter, Akhtar stated that the statement made by Kangana is to mislead the Court to obtain a favourable Order.

Akhtar pointed before the Court about the Criminal Defamation Complaint filed by him in November 2020 in which criminal proceeding is also pending.

The Bombay High Court is yet to decide on Akhtar’s intervention plea.
