BJP Youth Leader Arrested by Police for Posting Inflammatory Remark on Twitter

On June 7, police had arrested BJP Youth Wing leader and former District Secretary Harshit Shrivastava for posting some remarks on the Twitter which are inflammatory over the Kanpur violence.

On June 3, after offering the prayer of Friday violence took place in the area of Pared, Nai Sadak and Yateemkhana as the people tried to use force for shutting down the shops.

This violence broke out as some Muslim organizations called for Bandh over the discriminatory and disrespectful remarks passed by BJP leader Nupur Sharma on Prophet Mohammad.

Vijay Singh Meena, the Commissioner of Police said that those persons who hurt the religious feelings of the public will not be spared.

The people got indulge in brick-batting and also threw bombs. The petrol pump has been sealed as it is visible in the CCTV footage that people were filling empty bottles from petrol pump and bringing it to a place of violence for using it as bomb.

Colonelganj Police Station lodged the FIR under Section 153A, 295A and 507 of Indian Penal Code and under Section 67 of Information Technology Act.

“We will act as per zero-tolerance policy. Since Friday, we have booked 23 such social media users,” said joint commissioner of police Anand Prakash Tiwari.

There are now total 13 Social Media users who are booked for inflammatory content as new FIR lodged against two Facebook and three Twitter posts.

In the FIR there is name of 56 people who are involved in the violence but there are more 1,000 people who till now not identified by the police.
