Antigua and Barbuda Prime Minister Gaston Browne asked Dominica to repatriate financial scam accused Mehul Choksi directly to India as Antigua will not accept him back.

Prime Minister of Antigua said he has requested PM Skerrit to not return Mehul to Antigua where he has legal and constitutional protection as a citizen, reported ANI.

Choksi was apprehended in Dominica where he might have entered illegally by boats. Initially, arrangements were being made to hand Choksi over to Antigua, but Prime Minister Gaston Browne said he should be handed over to the Indian government.

While making the request PM Browne said Choksi made a “Monumental Error” by fleeing the Island as his family our legal citizens of the nation and are not known to be “let’s say criminals”

“We specifically requested them to have Indian law enforcement agencies make necessary arrangements to have him returned directly to India,” Browne told ANI.

Choksi, who is wanted in a Rs 13,500-crore loan fraud in the Punjab National Bank would have legal protection in Antigua, however it won’t be the same in Dominica and hence it would be easier for them to repatriate him directly to the Indian Government. The apprehension came in after the news that Mehul has been spotted in Dominicia on 25th May.
