Andhra Pradesh Govt files petition in Supreme Court against illegal usage of Water

In a plea filed through Advocate Mahfooz A Nazki, the Government of Andhra Pardesh mentioned that as far as the Srisailam Dam is concerned the quantity of the reservoir has severely came down owing to the use of water from its generation of power by the neighbouring state of Telangana.

Despite several requests made by the A.P government the Telangana government did not comply, the acts of the Telangana government are unconstitutional and a grave violation of the Right to life as guaranteed by the constitution of India of the People of Andhra Pradesh as alleged by the A.P government.

The Telangana government is not paying any attention to the directives of the Krishna River Management Board in order to put an end to power generation denying the compliance of the decision taken in the Apex Court formed under The Andhra Pradesh Recognition Act, 2014

The Petition additionally presented that State of Telangana Section 87, deals with “Ward of Board” and specifies that the Board will customarily practice jurisdiction on “Godavari and Krishna waterways with respect to any projects over headworks.

It was expressed that KRMB can exercise jurisdiction just in regard to such perspectives as are informed by the Central Government however no such warning has been given to date.

The appeal seeks for the Apex Court’s intercession to hand over the operation and support of such ventures, including Srisailam and Nagarjuna Sagar, to the Andhra Pradesh Government.

The Petition urged the Top Court to issue directions to the Center to quickly give warning fixing the purview of KRMB. The request further looks for guidelines to the Center to take over between state projects and send CISF staff for the activities’ well-being and security and all between the state water system and force undertakings to be treated as national projects to stay away from frequent disputes and legal litigations between the states on sharing of water and power.
