E-commerce giant Amazon moved a civil court in Mumbai on January 5, 2021, seeking to withdraw its suit on Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) and its chief Raj Thackrey over the party’s agitation for using Marathi in their app.

The company had moved the court after MNS threatened agitation against the company for not including Marathi in their app, website, and posters.

The company also alleged MNS workers had vandalized Amazon’s warehouses at Marol in Mumbai’s Andheri suburb and Pune city. Therefore they sought an order restraining entry of MNS workers in its warehouse or offices and assaulting or threatening its workers.

Advocate Vijay Thakur, appearing for MNS leader Akhil Chitre said that the court would decide whether to accept the application or not on January 12, 2021. He added that the issue no longer exists as Amazon has included Marathi among preferred languages in their app and website.

Amazon’s lawyer did not respond to phone calls or texts.
