The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had arrested Satyendar Jain who is the Health Minister of Delhi and recently made in-charge of Himachal Assembly Elections in Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the Case of Money Laundering.
He was charged with the Criminal Charges under Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The Congress and BJP are happy with his arrest where AAP is accusing BJP of framing Jain in a ‘fake’ case and of doing vendetta politics.
The ED alleged that Jain was giving evasive answers during the interrogation and will be produced in Court on May 31.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had registered a Case against Jain in 2017 for having disproportionate asset which initiated the Financial Probe by ED. The hawala transaction was performed by him in 2015-16 with Kolkata-based firm.
The Income Tax Department also issued Order against Jain for attaching his benami property. It was alleged that Jain and his family members have four shell companies which are used for Money Laundering.
Manish Sisodia, the Deputy CM of Delhi alleged that BJP is afraid to lose in Himachal and so they got Jain arrested when he became in-charge of Himachal Assembly Elections in AAP party.
“A fake case has been going on against Satyendar Jain for eight years. He has been called by the ED several times so far. The ED had stopped calling him for some time because it did not find anything against him. Now it has again started because he is the in-charge of Himachal Pradesh elections,” Sisodia said in a tweet in Hindi.
Delhi BJP Chief Adesh Gupta said “Kejriwal always kept mum on corruption charges against his party leaders. The arrest of Jain by the ED has come days after an AAP minister was arrested and sacked in Punjab people want Kejriwal to speak about it.”
Delhi Congress president Anil Kumar stated the arrest of Jain as ‘right step’. “Jain should have been arrested much earlier. Kejriwal has been protecting him for years,” Kumar said.
Before Punjab election Arvind Kejriwal claimed that ED will arrest Jain as alleging BJP for targeting AAP in fear of losing the elections.
The elections in Himachal Pradesh is going to be held later in this year and AAP is looking forward for it after winning in Punjab.
