Russian Court Rejects Alexei Navalny Appeal, Fined $11,500 in Defamation Case

On February 4 a Moscow court sentenced Kremlin’s critic Alexei Navalny to three and half years jail time for violating his terms of parole. This decision brought triggering fierce condemnation from the West and this called for his immediate release.

Alexey Navalny to remain in jail as the Russian court partially rejected his appeal over a two-and-a-half year jail sentence handed down earlier this month.

Also, in a separate case, Navalny was found guilty of defaming a World War II veteran and fined 850,000 rubles ($11,480).

Olga Mikhailova Alexey Navalny Navalny’s lawyer petitioned the court to release her client immediately, as demanded by the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR).
