Israeli parliament votes to dissolve The Knesset Parliament

Israel faced the possibility of a political chaos again  when the lawmakers approved a primary measure that would dissolve the unruly coalition government, bringing the country on a course to its fourth election in two years.

The 61-54 vote came just after  seven months when the coalition took office in a declaration of national unity to confront the coronavirus crisis. But since then, the alliance between Netanyahu’s Likud Party and Defense Minister Benny Gantz’s Blue and White has been locked in infighting.

Disagreements between the two main parties are expected to continue in the coming days in a final effort to avoid the final vote.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s party governing partners, voted in favour of dissolving the government, blaming the prime minister of putting his own legal interests over those of the country.

The Blue and White party PM was charged in the beginning of this year on accounts of fraud, breach of trust, and accepting bribes and will begin to appear in court for his trial next month. Before Israel heads once more to elections, the bill to dissolve parliament must now be approved in a Knesset committee and pass two more votes.
