Addressing the ‘intensity of rising cases’, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray requested Prime minister Narendra Modi to allow Covid-19 vaccination for all aged 25 years and above in the state. The rationale behind the Uddhav’s letter is to protect the ‘young and working population’ from the rapid spread of the virus.
The active cases in Maharashtra stand at 4.51 lakh with 73281 in the economic capital of India, Mumbai, itself. He also extended his appreciation towards our Prime Minister for accepting his proposal of vaccinating all above 45-years-old during previous meetings between PM Modi and the Chief Ministers of states.
He stated, “I further request you to lower it to 25, as the states facing the surge are having to place curbs to safeguard the lives of the population. However, if a large number of our young and working population is vaccinated, the intensity of the cases would be much lower than the treatment they need today.”
He also requested an additional dosage of around 1.5crore Covid-19 vaccines to vaccinate people aged above 45 years from six districts, namely, Nashik, Pune, Mumbai, Thane, Nagpur and Aurangabad. Recently, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal also requested the Prime Minister for relaxations in two contexts.
Firstly, he sought relation in conditions for opening new vaccination centres and secondly, for relaxing the age limit for vaccination of Covid-19. He explained that if the rules are simplified and everyone is permitted for vaccination, then all residents can be vaccinated within three months. Kejriwal wrote, “We have got the support of the Centre at every step. I hope that you will
also consider these requests so that an effective fight can be fought against coronavirus.”
