BACKGROUND – Reddy is a son of Y.S. Rajasekhaara Reddy, who was also a politician and held the office of Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh two times.He was married to Bharathi in 1996. He has two daughters- Harsha and Varsha. His younger sister, Sharmila is also a poltician. It can be said that he belongs to a poltician family.
UPBRINGING & EDUCATION – He was born in a Christian family. He completed his schooling from The Hyderabad Public School and then graduated with a B.Com Degree.
WALK OF LIFE – Mr. Reddy started as a businessman and established a company ‘Sandur’ near Karnataka and expanded it to the other north – eastern states.
Reddy is a chief promoter of Bharathi Cements and is also the founder of the Telguu daily newspaper ‘Sakshi’ and the T.V. channel ‘Sakshi TV’.
He started his political career in 2004 by compaigning for the Indian National Congress. He got elected as the Member of Parliament from Kadapa Constituency in 2009 general election. He soon became a Member of the Committee of Finance. However, in 2010 he resigned from the 15th Lok Sabha.
He formed a new party in 2011– YSR Congress Party and got re- elected in bye -election. In 2014 , he became an MLA and soon was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh.
MAJOR INITIATIVES TAKEN – He has introduced many welfare schemes for the upliftment of the people, such as Amma Vodi – this scheme provides money to the mothers so that they can educate their children.

CONTOVERSIES/CASES – Reddy was arrested by CBI in connection with disproportionate assets case. The investigating agency also disclosed that he had accepted ₹1,172 crore bribe from various investors and helped them get favours from the state government.
He was also arrested by CBI and charges of embezzlement were imposed on him.
Reddy did a hunger strike opposing the United Progressive Alliance’s decision for the creation of a separate Telangana state.
