Tirath Singh Rawat is the current chief minister of Uttarakhand. He is politically affiliated to Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP).

BACKGROUND – Tirath Singh Rawat was born to Kalam Singh Rawat a fitter man with the railways and Gaura Devi a homemaker. He is married to Rashami Rawat, an associate professor in Psychology at DAV College in Dehradun. They have one daughter, Akansha.

UPBRINGING & EDUCATION – He hails from Seeron, Pauri Garhwal district, Uttarakhand. Tirath Singh Rawat did his post-graduation in Sociology and diploma in Journalism from Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University, Uttarakhand.

WALK OF LIFE– Tirath began as a Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) pracharak and has also worked in the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP). He became the state vice president of Uttar Pradesh Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha. He was elected as a member of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council in the year 1997 and was also elected as president of the legislative council of Uttar Pradesh.

He served as the first education minister of Uttarakhand from 2000, when the state was formed, until 2002. Mr. Rawat was BJP’s Uttarakhand general secretary in the year 2007. He had lost successive assembly elections from Pauri, in 2002 and 2007. He was elected from the Chaubattakhal assembly seat in the year 2012 and, in the year 2013 he became Uttarakhand BJP Chief. He was denied a ticket in the next assembly polls in 2017 as the party fielded former Congress leader Satpal Maharaj from his constituency, BJP appointed him to party national secretary in the middle of the polls.

Mr. Tirath Singh Rawat is considered very close to Union Home Minister Amit Shah. And in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, Tirath was given the ticket he won by a margin of over 3 lakh votes defeating the Congress candidate. Four years after he was elected as the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand Trivendra Singh Rawat resigned from his post as Chief minister.
