AWARDS – He was awarded ‘Champions of Change’ award, 2019 for social welfare by former President of India Mr. Pranab Mukherjee.
BACKGROUND – He was born in a political family. His father Shibu Soren was former Chief Minister of Jharkhand and president of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha(JMM). He had an elder brother Durga Soren- a Member of the Legislative Assembly who died in May 2009, his younger brother Basant Soren is the president of Jharkhand Yuva Morcha. He is married to Kalpana Soren and they have two sons.
UPBRINGING & EDUCATION – Hemant Soren has done his schooling at Patna High School, Patna. He had also enrolled himself in mechanical engineering from Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra, but dropped out from it.
POLITICAL CAREER – He started his political career in 2009, as a Member of the Legislative Assembly and later on became Deputy Chief Minister of Jharkhand on 11th September 2010.
He was elected as the Chief Minister of Jharkhand on 15TH July 2013 with a coalition of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and Congress.
In December 2019 he was elected as the Chief Minister of Jharkhand with the alliance formed by Congress- Rashtriya Janata Dal- Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM).
MAJOR INITIATIVES TAKEN – Under the leadership of Hemant Soren, the state government had executed various schemes and policies like the reservation of 50% of government jobs for women and was also instrumental in combating the Maoist insurgency in Saranda, West Singhbhum, through a mixture of growth and security measures. He’s a firm believer in ensuring that the mineral-rich state of Jharkhand brings economic benefits to tribal communities.

CONTROVERSIES– He has been part of many controversies. In 2009 during assembly elections, he was accused of putting Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) flag on a building that was a model code of conduct and later on got bail when he surrendered himself before the court.
He allegedly raped a woman in 2013 and later on the case was dropped by the victim. This case took a new turn when the victim registered a new case 7 years later in December 2020.
