REMARKABLE ACHIEVEMENT- a. He became the youngest finance minister of Meghalaya.

b. In May 2016, he contested from Tura at the by-election to the Lok Sabha and won by a record margin of 1.92 lakh votes.

AWARDS – He received the Honorary Award from Sharda University.

Mr. Conrad is the 12th and current Chief Minister of Meghalaya. He belongs to the National People’s Party. 

BACKGROUND – Sangma’s father was a former Chief Minister of Meghalaya and Speaker of the Lok Sabha and his mother is a homemaker. Both, he and his older brother started their political journey together. Apart from politics, he has been associated with social work, as President of the PA Sangma Foundation, which functions for the betterment inn sectors of education and environment and also runs four colleges in rural Meghalaya. He also currently serves as President of the Meghalaya Cricket Association and Sports Academy.

UPBRINGING & EDUCATION – Conrad Kongkal Sangma was born on January 27, 1978, in the town of Tura located in West Garo Hills district, Meghalaya. He was brought up in Delhi and received his education from St. Columbia’s School. He did his BBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He received his MBA degree in finance from the Imperial College in London. He married to a doctor in 2009 and has a daughter.

WALK OF LIFE- .Conrad Kongkal Sangma began his political career in 1990s after completing his studies. He started off as a campaign manager in the NCP (National congress Party) for his father P.A. Sangma. In 2004, he contested his first election but faced a defeat. In 2008, he tasted success with being elected in the State Assembly as an NCP member. Later on, he held a number of portfolios such as Power, Finance, IT, Tourism and GAD.

He also presented his first ever budget within ten days of being a minister of Meghalaya. From 2009 to 2013, he held the position of the Leader of the Opposition in the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly. In March 2016, he became NPP’s president after his father’s death.

In the 2018 Meghalaya Assembly elections, NPP won 19 seats, coming second in the rank behind Congress. Sangma’s party NPP allied with regional parties due to the requirement of having atleast 30 seats to form the government. He was declared the Chief Minister of the state and swore in on March 6.

MAJOR INITIATIVES TAKEN- a. Conrad Kongkal Sangma launched the Chief Minister’s mobilization support for producer’s program. b. laid the foundation for up gradation of the Dalu-Baghmara road in the West Garo Hills District. c. He also launched e-challan for Digital Traffic Enforcement Solution.
