BACKGROUND – Ajanta Neog is an Indian politician who is currently the Finance and Social Welfare Minister in the Government of Assam. She is the first woman Finance Minister of Assam. She has been representing the Golaghat Assembly seat consecutively for the past 5 terms since 2001. She also holds the record for being the longest serving female legislator from Assam. She joined BJP in December 2020.

Ajanta Neog is the daughter of Sasadhar Das and Rebati Das and was born in 1975.

She was married to Late Nagen Neog in 1995. Neog was introduced to politics by Tarun Gogoi after her husband Nagen Neog was killed in 1996 by the along with eight others by the outlawed United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA). She is also a social worker. Her main hobbies are Reading, Gardening, Listening to Songs. Her special area of interest in social work is to work for weaker sections of the Society.

MAJOR INITIATIVES – She has immensely helped in the social upliftment of the weaker sections of society. She granted financial assistance to set up a pig farm, fishery, a new panchayat office at Mokrong GP, and a newly constructed foot over bridge.
