The Supreme Court asked Jharkhand CM, Hemant Soren to submit a copy of writ petition to the HC which called for an independent probe against him for allegedly laundering money through shell companies.

The bench comprising of Justice UU Lalit and Justice S Ravindra Bhat while hearing petitions of State of Jharkhand and Hemant Soren challenging the High court order which accepted the maintainability of the said plea.

Senior advocate, Kapil Sibal informed the court that the HC proceeded to pass the orders even though the PILs were not genuine and politically motivated.

A vacation bench of Justice DY Chandrachud and Justice Bela M Trivedi challenged the decision to accept the documents submitted by Enforcement Directorate.

The bench directed,

“That the, issue as to maintainability should be dealt with by the High Court on the next date of listing. Based on the outcome of the objections to the maintainability of the proceedings, the High Court may thereafter proceed in accordance with law.”
