The Karnataka High Court clarified that its order quashing the decisions of the Bar Council of India (BCI) as well as the Karnataka State Law University KSLU to conduct physical end semester exams applies to both 5-year and 3-year Law Courses.

The High Court Bench of Justice R Devdas also clarified on the following issues:

  1. The directions of the High Court apply only to semesters which were affected by Covid 19 and is not a blanket order for all times to come.
  2.  BCI need not be given a specific direction for accepting the marks sheet issued by KSLU as it is a party (respondent) in these writ proceedings.

The Court further stated that the order applies only to other semester students and does not concern the final year students.

The University’s Committee had sought clarifications from the quotes in the aforementioned matters and thus held the meeting. On the KSLU Counsel’s submission of the same, the Court stated the points mentioned above.

The matter came before the Bench following the KSLU’s decision to conduct exams for 3-year course students assuming that the order by the Court is applicable only in case of 5- year law course.
