On April 28, Friday, a Mumbai court is expected to announce its decision in the Jiah Khan suicide case, after Special Judge AS Sayyad finished hearing the final arguments on April 20 and reserved the case for a verdict.
The case started in 2013 when Jiah Khan was discovered hanging by her mother, Rabia Khan, and a letter allegedly written by Jiah described her troubled relationship with actor Sooraj Pancholi, resulting in Pancholi’s arrest on charges of abetment of suicide.
Despite Rabia’s attempts to have the investigation transferred to other investigative bodies and allegations of murder, the CBI charged Pancholi with abetment of suicide, and the trial began in 2019.
In January 2023, Pancholi’s lawyer requested the summoning of witnesses to expedite the trial, and after arguments ended on April 20, the judge stated that he would attempt to deliver the verdict on April 28.
