The bail petition of Punjabi actor-turned-activist Deep Sidhu is to be heard by a Delhi Court. Deep has been ccused of inciting the tractor violence which took place near the Red Fort on Republic Day, in a protest led by farmers against the contentious farm laws passed by the central government. Subsequently, he was arrested on February 9.

An FIR registered after the violence named Sidhu and some others, and the Delhi Police stated that he was involved in the incident. The hearing of the bail petition in this matter was to take place in the Tis Hazari court, but it had been adjourned after a jurisdictional issue arose. Now, another Delhi Court is to take up the matter.

The protests are being undertaken by farmers at different borders of the national capital of Delhi since November 26, against three contentious farm laws: Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020; the Farmers Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act 2020 and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020.
