Calcutta HC grants relief to BJP Suvendu Adhikari after summoned by CID

The Calcutta High Court has granted interim relief to the West Bengal Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Suvendu Adhikari after the Crime Investigation Department (CID) summoned him for the investigation into his bodyguard’s death case.

After CID issued summon order for Adhikari to be present for the probe, he filed a special appeal in the Court challenging the Order.

The Court directed Adikari not to take any actions against CID summons as Judicial Protection has been granted to him.

The Court has now given respite to Adhikari over the five FIRs filed by the Bengal Government against him.

The Court stated that no coercive action can be taken against him and he cannot be arrested in existing or future cases without its nod

Suvendu Adhikari, Opposition Leader in the Bengal assembly was summoned by the CID in his connection to the death of one of his security staff, Subhabrata Chakraborty, by gunshot in 2018.

Adhikari’s personal security guard had allegedly shot himself dead with his service revolver in 2018 in a police barrack in Kanthi in Purba Medinipur district.

CID is probing into the matter to find out that, whether Subhabrata committed suicide or if was a murder case.

The counsels representing Adhikari argued that, how CID could issue any summons for probe while the case was still pending into the Calcutta High Court.
