90-year-old woman abandoned by children rescued by DLSA officials

A 90-year-old woman was found lying opposite to the police commissioner of Nizamabad’s office was rescued by the District Legal Services Authority (DSLA) officials, after having been abandoned by her kin. The plight of the woman, who had collapsed on the street, was brought to the notice of the DLSA Secretary, Kiran Mahi, by a youth run voluntary organisation, Indur Yuvatha Association.

The woman had been seen begging for food in the town of Nizamabad for a few weeks prior to this, following which, she had collapsed. She was taken to the local government hospital upon instructions by the DLSA chairperson and principal district judge Sai Rama Devi.

Padma Singh is a paralegal volunteer who had been entrusted to trace the kin of the elderly woman, found out that the name of the woman is Nagubai, who has two sons and a daughter.

She apparently suffered mistreatment at the house of her younger son, where she earlier resided. Her daughter too had been annoyed at her because she gave one acre of land to the younger son, who later abandoned her. The children of Nagubai were summoned by the officials and counselled.
