Virtual Hearing: Kapil Sibal disappears, Harish Salve takes a jibe

Supreme Court took a hilarious detour when Kapil Sibal, representing the now-resigned Home Minister of Maharashtra, Anil Deshmukh, went off screen for a few moments.

During the virtual hearing, Kapil Sibal vanished while reading out a previous judgment to sustenance his contention that allegations against his clients are merely hearsay.

Justice SK Kaul who was presiding over the Supreme Court bench, noted, “He (Mr. Sibal) appears to be gone”.

Senior lawyer Harish Salve wisecracked, “Even the system crashed hearing his arguments”.

However, Mr. Sibal joined the session after a few moments and the hearing continued.

In an impediment to the Maharashtra government and the former Home Minister of Maharashtra, the Supreme Court declined to stop the preliminary CBI investigation as directed by the Bombay High Court.

Mr. Deshmukh resigned as Maharashtra Home Minister after High Court ordered the CBI probe to continue into the corruption allegations levelled against Deshmukh by former Mumbai police chief Param Bir Singh.
