The Uttarakhand High Court has launched a distinct system of Mobile E-Court vans for speedy disposal of cases in remote hill areas where access to Courts is difficult.

On August 12, Chief Justice R S Chauhan will launch five Mobile e-court vans with Internet access and Computers for the Districts of Pithoragarh, Champawat, Uttarkashi, Tehri, and Chamoli.

Once the experiment succeeds in these Districts, it will be extended to the rest.

The initiative was conceived by the Chief Justice who believes that extreme and varied geographical conditions of the Hill Districts of Uttarakhand often cause delays in administering justice to litigants.

In cases of Rape, Molestation, and Dowry Harassment it takes years to get justice because of practical constraints and difficulties faced by victims or witnesses in reaching the Courts.

“Not only will this step bring justice to the deserving, but also save a lot of time thereby ensuring speedy trials,” said Dhananjay Chaturvedi, Registrar General of the High Court.

The Chief Justice further added, “The E-Court vans will map the physical distances between Courts and witnesses thereby reducing consumption of time.”

These vans will aim to provide for full Court proceedings in the form of E-Courts. The District and Sessions Judges of the Districts will be responsible for their operation.
