Two fraudsters have been arrested in Nagpur who have allegedly been involved in the unscrupulous activity of selling the Remdesivir vial filled with water to unsuspecting victims for prices as high as Rs. 28,000.
The two accused, identified as Abhilash Petkar (28) and Aniket Nandeshwar (21), were working as X-Ray technicians and sold two such bogus vials to a person whose relative was admitted in a COVID-19 testing facility in Maharashtra.
The accused apparently first quoted a price of Rs. 40,000 but later brought it down to Rs. 28,000 with further negotiations.
Inspector Satyawan Mane, a Sakkardara police station official said, “The relative found something suspicious about the vials. He approached police and we nabbed the two after laying a trap at a flyover here in the evening. Searches are underway in their houses in New Subedar Layout and Manewada as part of the probe.”
This is not the first fraudulent act involving the drug, which has been a key medicine in the treatment of virus affected patients.
There has been a rise in dishonest acts involving the drug since the demand for the drug has also risen, given the spike in cases.
