Tripura High Court tells State Govt to ensure equal distribution of vaccine

Tripura High Court held that the State administration must address the uneven distribution of vaccines in the age group where there is a serious scarcity.

The State Government was further ordered by the bench of Chief Justice Akil Kureshi and Justice S. Talapatra to guarantee that vaccine doses for such age groups are not monopolized by any region or class of population and that vaccines are distributed more evenly.

The court reviewed the report filed by the State administration in relation to covid management in the State, and as a result, the Court raised the following problem:

“We’ve noticed that the government has agreed to provide vaccination bulletins on a daily basis, as we suggested. These details, which would now be in the public domain and freely accessible to the general public, would undoubtedly offer the general public an understanding of the precise status of vaccination progress.”

Mr Somik Deb, amicus curiae and learned advocate for petitioners stated on basis of information in the vaccination bulletin that, there is a severe shortage of vaccines for people aged 18 to 44 years, as a result of this shortage, only a few people in this age group have been vaccinated.

The data also shows that in certain districts, relatively few vaccinations have been administered to people in this age group, and in others, no one has taken vaccination.

The court further stated, “Even though this is the government’s policy, such a relative who emerges from the Covid ward is a possible virus carrier. We anticipate the administration taking.”
