Three new High Court Chief Justices appointed across India

Justice S Muralidhar, who was an advocate practicing in the SC as well as the civil courts of Chennai High Court and Delhi High Court since his appointment in 1984, was appointed as the new Chief Justice. He took the oath to serve as the 32nd Chief Justice of the High Court of Orissa.

His oath was administered by the Governor of Odisha, Ganeshi Lal at the Raj Bhavan. Justice S Muralidhar succeeded Justice Mohammad Rafiq becoming the Chief Justice of the High Court of Orissa.

Meanwhile, at the Convention Centre in Jammu, the new Chief Justice was sworn in under the administration of the oath led by the Lt. Governor, Manoj Sinha. Justice Pankaj Mithal was appointed as the current Chief Justice of the common High Court for Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, on Jan 4th.

His appointment warrant was read out by the High Court’s Registrar General. Justice Mithal has become the head of this court in place of Chief Justice Gita Mittal since she recently retired.

In Chennai, Justice Sanjib Banerjee, the new Madras High Court’s Chief Justice’s oath was administered to him by Governor Banwarilal Purohit. It was administered on Jan 4th in a ceremony at the Raj Bhavan.

Justice Banerjee inherited his office from Chief Justice Amreshwar Pratap Sahi, who retired on the last day of 2020. He was the senior-most judge to preside over the Calcutta High Court and will now be the 50th Madras High Court Chief Justice.

Several state dignitaries and high important officials participated in all three appointment ceremonies. All three judges were wished the best of luck and congratulated wholeheartedly upon their successions.
