The Telangana High Court on December 23, 2021 Ordered the Telangana State Government to take preventive measures in regards with the rising number of cases in the Omicron variant of the Corona Virus, during the festival period of Christmas, New Year and Makar Sankranti.

A Telangana High Division Bench comprising of Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice N Tukaramji stated, “The mass gathering of people without wearing masks and following minimum precautions is a matter of concern.”

The High Court Bench advised the State Government to initiate a strategy of testing people who arrive from other States, for Covid-19, and develop a mechanism to quarantine those who are tested positive for Covid-19.

Telangana State Health Minister T Harish Rao stated that the Government will ensure that all preventive measures are taken to curb the spread of Omicron in the State. The Minister stated that he has asked the Government to provide ‘booster’ vaccination doses of Covid-19 to the people.

Recently a village in Telangana named Rajanna of the Siricilla district went into a ‘self-imposed’ lockdown as a native who returned from Dubai, was tested positive for the new Omicron variant of the Corona Virus. Later on, his wife and his mother were also tested positive for Omicron.

The Sarpanch of the Village stated, “It is very unfortunate, but we have no other alternative. Except for a couple of hours in the morning for essential services, the entire village will be shut down for 10 days. We have asked the people not to come out of their houses except for emergency needs.”
