The High Court has given the Telangana government a two-day deadline to decide on a lockdown to combat rising Covid cases.

the High Court said, “The government must decide on a lockout or curfew within 48 hours, or the court will issue orders”.

The High Court also released a set of guidelines and ordered the Telangana government to submit a full report.

In the last 24 hours, Telangana has recorded 4,009 cases and 14 deaths.

Chief Justice Hima Kohli inquired if the government had released any circulars regulating visits to movie theaters, shopping malls, weddings, and other public places.

The Chief Justice inquired, “What are you going to make of the citizens of the state…sitting ducks?”

The court requested “ward-wise info” on positive cases in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, as Hyderabad has become a hotspot. It also requested that RT-PCR reports be sent within 24 hours.

The government must respond in the next hearing, which is scheduled for Friday.

Following reports that Telangana might be underreporting its Covid level, the court took a tough stance.

The overall number of cases has been estimated to be much greater than the daily media bulletin’s count.
