The Supreme Court remarked that, “Everybody is impressed with Gujarat”, after Uttar Pradesh Additional Advocate General informed it about the state striving to adopt the Gujarat model to improve infrastructure for commercial courts.

UP Additional Advocate General Garima Prashad informed a bench of Justices MR Shah and MM Sundresh that some government officials visited the court complexes in Ahmedabad and Vadodara and were impressed by the facilities.

The Supreme Court took into consideration the AAG’s argument that the UP government should make every effort to provide courts with infrastructure facilities comparable to those found in Gujarat, where 10 districts were initially identified.

A request for funding for the lower judiciary’s infrastructure and other needs was being heard by the bench.

The Supreme Court had previously stated that the state government is responsible for funding commercial courts and other court buildings and providing adequate infrastructure.
