The Supreme Court ordered state boards to report their respective evaluation methodologies for the Class 12 physical tests that were cancelled within 10 days. Also, to announce the outcomes of the internal assessment by July 31.

The Vacation Bench of Justice AM Khanwilkar and Justice Dinesh Maheshwari ruled that,

“For all boards, we’re passing a general order. We direct the Boards to prepare and notify schemes in 10 days from now, as well as to announce the internal assessment results by July 31st, as per the CBSE and ICSE timelines.”

The Supreme Court further stated that a standard assessment scheme for all state boards was not conceivable as different states have different views.

The panel was hearing a petition filed by Advocate Anubha Sahai Srivastava, who requested that state board exams be cancelled due to the covid scenario.

Several state boards announced the cancellation of Class 12 exams while the petition was underway. Exams for Class 12 have already been held in six states. Andhra Pradesh is the only state that has yet to hold or declare the cancellation of the Class 12 exams.

The Andhra Pradesh government informed the Supreme Court that the tests will be held in the last week of July. For which the Court expressed its dissatisfaction and said it would lead to delay in college admissions.
