Supreme Court of Thailand gives Construction Tycoon more than 3 years Jail term for Poaching

On Wednesday, 08 December 2021, Thailand’s Supreme Court gave their Judgement against the construction tycoon Premchai Karnasuta, who now will serve 3 years in jail, upon losing his Appeal in a Case focused on Animals Poaching.

Premchai Karnasuta, President of the Thailand’s biggest construction company, Italian Thai Development Pcl was Arrested in 2019 following the Order of Criminal Court of Offences that consisted poaching in a wildlife sanctuary, poaching protected species and possession of unlicensed firearm.

This Case was in highlight since 2018 when the President of the company was found along with his driver and a huntsman in a jungle campsite at the Thungyai Naresuan Wildlife Sanctuary near carcasses of the protected species, such as Kalij pheasant as well as black Indochinese leopard.

Prayut Bejraguna, spokesperson of Attorney-General’s office stated that, “The case shows that if you commit a crime, regardless of whether you are rich or poor, you will be legally prosecuted.”

The Supreme Court’s Verdict was final for the Accused, who had primarily apologized over the poaching allegations.

The construction tycoon will serve for 3 years and 2 months in the prison whereas his driver and the huntsman will serve for 3 months and 7 months respectively.

Premchai had also lost the Appeals in other cases of bribing authorities and illegal possession of firearms, to which he had been sentenced to one year and six months in the prison separately.
