Supreme Court issues notice to Jharkhand Govt over Contempt Plea filed by rape victim

A two Judge Bench comprising Justice DY Chandrachud and Justice MR Shah ordered the Standing Council of the State, Advocate Tapesh Kumar Singh to file an affidavit in the Court after taking instruction from the State of Jharkhand in regard to the steps taken to implement the Order dated November 29, 2020.

The Order passed by the Apex Court stated that the Deputy Commissioner of Ranchi should ensure that the minor children of the petitioner should be provided free education in any Government Institutions until they attain 14 years of age and provision of accommodation may be considered under Prime Minister Awas Yojna or any Central or State Scheme.

It was further stated that the Senior Superintendent of Police, Ranchi and other Competent Authority must review the police security provided to the petitioner from time to time and take up necessary measures regarding it.

To safeguard the interest of the petitioner, The District Legal Services Authority, Ranchi should provide legal services on representation made by the petitioner.

The rape victim filed a contempt plea before the Apex Court and complained that the Government Officials failed to provide accommodation and free education according to the previous Order of the Court.

The matter is scheduled for further hearing in the second week of July.
