Supreme Court Collegium headed by CJI recommends 6 Judicial Officers as Judges of Delhi High Court

The Supreme Court Collegium recommended Centre the names of six Judicial Officers for appointment as Judges of the Delhi High Court.

The Supreme Court Collegium was headed by Chief Justice of India N V Ramana. It also comprised of senior most Judges like Justices UU Lalit and AM Khanwilkar.

The Collegium held deliberations on February 1, 2022 and recommended the names of Poonam A Bamba, Neena Bansal Krishna, Dinesh Kumar Sharma, Anoop Kumar Mendiratta, Swarana Kanta Sharma, and Sudhir Kumar Jain.

In the names recommended for the Judgeship of the Delhi High Court, the names of three women Judicial Officers have been recommended. At present, the Delhi High Court is functioning with 30 Judges as against the sanctioned strength of 60 Judges.

The Collegium also resolved to reiterate its earlier Judgment for elevation of 5 Judicial Officers as Judges at different High Courts. The names of Shampa Dutt and Siddhartha Roy Chowdhury had been reiterated as Judges of Calcutta High Court.

US Joshi Phalke and BP Deshpande had been reiterated as Judges of Bombay High Court. The Collegium also resolved to reiterate its recommendation for elevation of Judicial Officer Pradeep Kumar Srivastava as Judge of Jharkhand High Court.

The Collegium had taken the decisions in the meeting held on February 1, 2022 and the resolution was uploaded on the Supreme Court’s website on February 2, 2022.
