The Supreme Court has issued a recent clarification, stating that the registration of all BS VI compliant diesel vehicles is permissible in NCT Delhi, regardless of their requirement for the G-20 summit.

Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia presided over the case and clarified that the previous order allowing registration did not specify BS VI vehicles, so all such vehicles may be registered.

On May 15, the Court had granted permission for the registration of BS VI compliant diesel vehicles with seating capacity for more than 7 plus 1 persons, coaches, and buses required for the G-20 Summit.

However, in a subsequent application, it was clarified that the prayer for registration was not limited to the G-20 event. The mention of the G-20 event was only for listing purposes and not to restrict registration.

The background of the case involves the Indian Tourists Transporters Association filing an application stating that RTO in New Delhi was refusing registration of BS VI compliant diesel vehicles with seating capacity for more than 7 plus 1 persons, coaches, and buses.

The RTO’s decision was not supported by any executive, judicial order, or statutory provision, causing prejudice and discrimination to Association members based in Delhi.

Consequently, the Supreme Court has modified its previous order, allowing the registration of all BS VI diesel compliant vehicles in NCT Delhi.
