High Court of Sikkim asked for the State’s response on its policies, concerning the construction of old age homes.

The division bench was hearing to a PIL seeking construction of old age homes in the State. The bench comprising Chief Justice Jitendra Kumar Maheshwari and Justice Meenakshi Madan said that “Looking to the scope of this Public Interest Litigation, the State Government must produce the relevant policies of the State Government with the directives of the Central Government for the benefit of the Senior Citizens of their State. The relevant material is not available.”

The State government was duty-bound on central governments direction to make several policies with the interest of senior citizens.

The Court pointed out that even after eight months, there is no progress in getting funds for the construction of old age homes.

So it cannot be treated as a progress in the matter but it is a position as exist,” the Court said and wants the State government to give its response on this matter.

The case will be further heard on 9th August.
